Signs and Symptoms of PTSD
PTSD can stem from any traumatic event. For example, natural disasters, war, physical, emotional, or sexual abuse and assault, physical illness, the traumatic loss of a loved one, or something else. While there are known risk factors, it has not yet been determined why some people who have faced trauma develop PTSD, whereas others do not.
Not everyone experiences PTSD in the same way.
Even if you know another person with PTSD, you could both display different symptoms. With that in mind, common signs and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder include but aren’t limited to the following:
- Avoiding people, places, or other stimuli that remind you of a traumatic event
- Avoiding feelings and thoughts that remind you of a traumatic event
- Ongoing negative emotions, such as anger, guilt, shame, or sadness
- Recurring memories or dreams related to a traumatic event
- Flashbacks (re-living or re-experiencing the event)
- Exaggerated blame, directed at yourself or others
- High-risk, impulsive, or self-destructive behavior
- Negative thoughts about yourself or the world
- Loss of interest in activities you used to enjoy
- Distressing thoughts related to the event
- Difficulty experiencing positive emotions
- Social isolation or withdrawal from others
- Trouble falling or staying asleep
- Irritability or angry outbursts
- Being startled easy
- Hypervigilance
- Nightmares
Physical symptoms and health problems, like chronic pain or body aches, are also common among those with PTSD. PTSD is diagnosed based on the criteria in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM).
It is also worth noting that those who have undergone chronic trauma (e.g., prolonged childhood abuse or domestic violence) can have what is called Complex PTSD or C-PTSD, which can come with additional symptoms and is also treatable.
Do You Need PTSD Treatment?
PTSD treatment is worthwhile for anyone who can benefit from a reduction in symptoms of PTSD. Signs that you need PTSD treatment may include but aren’t limited to the following:
- PTSD symptoms have a negative impact on your physical or mental health.
- PTSD symptoms interfere with work, school, relationships, or other important parts of your life.
- You aren’t satisfied with your current PTSD treatment plan or level of symptom management.
When you reach out to Omnia Recovery about Southern California PTSD treatment, we’ll give you an assessment to help determine your current treatment needs. We will then help you decide on one of our programs.

Understanding PTSD and Substance Abuse
Trauma is a risk factor for substance abuse, and people who live with PTSD are more likely to experience a substance use disorder. In fact, a national study once found that 46.4% of people with lifetime PTSD met the criteria for a substance use disorder of some kind.
Even so, extensive research shows that it is possible to reduce PTSD symptoms successfully through a range of therapies and treatments. The same is true for substance abuse. It is possible to recover, and treatment can help.

What Our Clients Have To Say
our approach
Levels of Care We Offer
Omnia Recovery is a 100% outpatient treatment center with multiple levels of care, ranging from most to least intensive. Here are our programs and a little bit about what to expect in each. Note that you’ll have a customized treatment plan no matter what care level you’re in, which will determine your unique treatment plan and schedule.
Partial hospitalization programs, or PHP, are a level of care in between inpatient treatment and intensive outpatient treatment. While PHP is a type of outpatient care and does not require you to live on-site, you will spend more hours in treatment per week than an intensive outpatient client would. PHP at Omnia Recovery consists of attending care 3-5 days per week for a total of four weeks. After PHP is over, many clients step down to a lower level of care to help them transition back into daily life.
The intensive outpatient program at Omnia Recovery still requires multiple sessions per week, but your overall time commitment will be lower than that of a PHP client. The additional flexibility and freedom IOP provides makes tending to external commitments, like work, school, or family life, easier.
Standard outpatient treatment requires even fewer hours per week than IOP. Usually, clients in our outpatient program have already finished a higher level of care and are ready to transition back into everyday life smoothly with the help and support of treatment staff.
Before you exit care with us, we’ll help you make an aftercare plan to promote relapse prevention and symptom management. Once you finish treatment at Omnia Recovery, you will gain access to our large alumni support network, which will help you stay in touch with your support system from treatment.
Outpatient care is usually less expensive than inpatient treatment. Your health insurance plan may help you cover the cost of Southern California PTSD treatment. Omnia Recovery accepts most forms of insurance to help make care accessible. To confirm your insurance coverage for treatment at Omnia Recovery, fill out the insurance verification form on our admissions page or give us a call today.
